...All this snow is reminding me of something that happened as a little, little kid. I was five going on six, staying with my grandparents. I'd lived in Hawaii for a couple of years, and I'd forgotten that snow was in fact cold. Icicles were an endless source of fascination, and fun to lick besides. I was coming inside with my little brother, saw the frost and ice on the iron railing near the door, and well...

Okay, how many of you saw "A Christmas Story?"
*Counts hands*
Remember that scene when the kid got stuck to the railing by his tongue?

Yep. that's exactly what happened.

And then my little brother, who didn't realize what happened, tugged at my arm to get me inside...and pulled me off the railing, leaving behind a little skin. Owwwwwww....

Grandma figured out what happened in about two seconds. I remember eating a lot of ice-cream to get my tongue to stop bleeding. It healed without any trouble, but even now as an adult whenever I look closely at an icy bit of iron I clamp my lips a little tighter to protect my poor tongue.

So there you are.

Yep, it was ouchie, alright.

I remember the *look* on my grandma's face when I came in with a bleeding mouth. Just horrified. And I always wince when I watch that part of "A Christmas Story"

It wasn't funny for me...It's a little funny now I'm older. I tell people what happened and they go, all huffy, "You should have known better!"
S'cuse me; I'd been living on an island for a couple of years...some people's kids.:)

OWW! I just put my hand up to my tongue and The Kid asked me what's wrong! Ooh, ooh, argh!

I would never have thought of ice cream as a way to stop the bleeding. Ack.

Me neither...but it seemed to work alright.

*Sticks out tongue and tries to look at it* I'm so glad it healed up nicely. I guess you heal quick when you're five:)

Reminds me of someone (I can't remember who) said he had his tongue torn of a frozen something, and it was right by the door to the school, and it was winter (of course) so the blood (and there was a lot) stayed on the sidewalk (wall?) for a very long time, of reveryone to see and remind him of.

Eeew. That *is* gross. Poor guy...and poor other kids, too.*shudder*

I remember most of the blood there was (and there wasn't too much, thankfully) ended up on my shirt. Gross but fixable.
