...That whole poo incident last week still hasn't died...

*torn between annoyance and giggling*

That, and I still have the bad trumpet-plaing in my head from that lady playing the Star Wars theme everybody's been showing me on Youtube. The eighties has so much to answer for, I tell ya...

poo...and CURRY poo!

A few weeks ago in India : I fell knee deep into raw sewage when the street collapsed underneath me. Fifty Indians were laughing at me so hard they had tears running down their faces...

That sounds TERRIBLE!!!

I dunno what's worse, the sewage or the fifty people laughing hysterically at you. *shakes head in horrified amusement*

Indians are very hostile to foreigners in general.

The caste system is alive and well, and foreigners are ranked just slightly above untouchables.

Wow...I had no idea. We've got a pretty good Indian population here in Minneapolis, and they've always struck me as pretty cultured, nice people. Then again, I'm seeing the ones that left India and they're in my country, so maybe that has something to do with it?

Go into rural India, and they will curse you, hiss and throw garbage at you. Its not like that in the cities.

I left my 3rd AC sleeper bed to use the hole in the floor squat toilet on a train in Karnataka. There were Seiks on the train... while I was gone they poured CURRY all over my bed and blankets!

There are motherfucking Seiks on this motherfucking TRAIN!

They were wildly hostile from the get go.

I saw a huge Carrington show in Mexico City a few years ago at the Museo Nacional... they have a large remedios varos collection too.

Mexico is a clean, well ordered Utopia compared to India.

I love Mexico.

I love Remidios Varo...We've got a Carrington here in the collection at work, and it just makes me crave more of her work generally:) We just too a Dorothea Tanning off the walls for a cleaning, and I miss it already. (We're lucky here to have an okay Surrealist gallery without too much of the really annoying surrealists.)

I've never been to Mexico, but perhaps I should give it a try sometime. The only other country I've been to so far (with the exception of Canada, for Minnesotans that's cheating) has been Japan, where (pre 9-11) Americans were regarded like amusingly clumsy puppy dogs and teenagers routinely said hi to me on the streets and the trains to practice their English... I think I got spoiled, huh?

One can ride a bus all the way from the texas border through Mexico and all the way to Panama for about 200$ and 10 days time.

The art in Mexico City is just as great or more so than any in Rome, Paris, etc.

And the National Anthropology Museum! WOW!
