Since I'm on Second Floor of the Jade Mines today, I get to hang out by several ancient and beautiful haikus and such from the masters of the art form. I can't help feeling a little jealous at the ease of which they seem to express complex emotional feelings in a small, neat format. For example:

Two of my haikus:

Red Queen's Riddle:
(Or, working girl's lament)

Run and run and run
Just to stay in the same place.
Now, run twice as fast...

Hunger:
Pity eats it's fill.
Wisdom and truth go hungry
when at your table...

Compared to Ki No Tsurayuki (868-945)

As when a traveller
seeks in vain to
slake his thirst
at a wellside spring
soiled by drops from
his cupped hands,
so, unsatisfied, I part from you...

See? I never stood a chance;)

Oh my I love the first one! Sometimes I feel like I need to run twice as fast. I'm snagging that one.
