*looks suspiciously at the sky*
May. 31st, 2008 08:30 pmIt's been storming and raining most of the afternoon. With the occasional storm sirens, which always give me a bit of disquiet. I think it was just growing up on Navy bases as a little, little kid--they'd test the air-raid sirens, and all the kids would hunch up get quiet. Then I moved back to tornado country, where the air curdles green and then goes black and we either run downstairs to the basement or go out in bare feet to watch the funnel...
I remember one time in Bozeman, when the sirens went off at 1 am or so...I woke up hazily, thinking, "Air raid! Air raid! Wait--nono--Tornado! Tornado! Waitwaitwait--Montana. Montana? What the hell does Montana have sirens for?!? Uhhhhhh...fire?...Rabid Cows? What??" Turned out some kids had broken into the high school and set it off or something...for hours and hours. Worst night of my life for sleeping, lemme tell ya.
I think most of the storm's to the north of us, but we have enough here in the city to be entertaining. Just as I get comfortable I hear booms and see flashes of lightning. It's cosy stuff. *snuggles into couch*
