I was in a bit of a mood when I was coming home last night. All week people have been pretty grumpy and awful at the Jade Mines. Then I picked up a City Pages and my blood just ran cold from the main story, about a woman who had custody of her children given to her abusive husband, who ran with the kids to Holland. Stuff like that always reminds me of my family as a small child--an abusive father everybody seemed to believe, a mom scarred with PTSD, and my brother and I, who grew up looking over our shoulders for the bogeyman we knew damn well was out there, somewhere...
Anyway, when I got home, the island worked it's usual magic. I had the Sweeties over for a bit of dinner, then I helped Peaty wrangle his fowl brood. He has new peeps in the chicken yard--baby chicks and pheasants, ever so fluffy, like little pom-poms of chirpyness. I helped shoo the birds into the side yard with the Shooing Stick(tm) and helped fill the kiddie-pools Peatu ses for duck ponds, with the geese and ducks all honking and quacking for him to hurry it up, already...I also picked my very first tomato ever out of the gaden, and am currently eating it with garlic eggs this morning. It's good, very sweet.
Then we all piled into Ben and Peat's house to catch up on Project Runway, and we had the best time critiquing the dresses and agreeing that the leathery meth-addict guy has got to go...We all could see Tim Gunn saying,"Blaine, I'm sorry, it's time to pack things up when you start scaring the other contestants and the home audience. The Gollum thing just isn't that attractive on the runway, I'm sorry...put down those shears, young man! Security! Security!!!"
So, to sum up:
City Pages: Scary.
Friends: Wonderful.
Chicks: Fluffy.
Garden tomato: Sweet.
Blaine: Creepy creepy creepy...
And there you are:)
