I'm so glad to be on my calm island right now...I had a longer than usual wait for my bus home--I think my usual bus broke down or something. I was already kind of annoyed, since some guy from the theatre next door had a funny kind of blow-up at me when I was working the door at the Jade Mines. Then on the bus some weird fight broke out between a middle-aged guy and some kid just into her teens. They apparently didn't know each other--the girl was a few seats away from the guy and yelling that the guy was a pervert, and the guy was yelling back,saying he wasn't and threatening to hurt her. They were about to come to blows when the driver finally kicked them both off a block apart. There are few things more unsettling and ugly than watching a fully grown man threatening a little girl, even if the girl was yelling every obscenity she could think of back at him. Okay, the entire thing was ugly. On the way out I told the driver I hoped his night got better, and he grinned and replied, "Couldn't get much worse, huh?"

Then I walked home through the falling leaves, and when I got close to my house I heard the new next-door neighbor practicing his piano. He's really good, and there's a friend with a clarinet with him, playing some slow sweet jazz number. It's really beautiful...just what I needed after all that ugly.

*cocks head and listens quietly for a minute...*

That's why I'm afraid to ride the bus. If I can't have a car, gimmie a bike and a good road map. *shivers*

I would love to take a walk through the neighbor and listen to some light jazz. I gotta say, you live on a wonderful island.

That reminds me of when I rode the bus a couple months ago. Some middle-aged hothead was trying to start a fight with another passenger. The hothead told the other guy, "Wherever you get off, I'll get off there, too." When the hothead shoved the other passenger, the crowd told him to stop it. This one woman really gave him in earful. Finally he sat down and kept quiet. I've seen my share of obnoxious people over the years on the bus, but never anything like that.

Usually the bus is just fine, but lately it's been getting really tense. And I have one of the fairly good buses, too...I blame the stress over the economy and this whole year...

It's funny...for the most part I don't see that either, but lately it's really been ratcheting up. Freaky.
