Last night was wonderful...Liz and Erin came by to help me celebrate my birthday, and Liz made coq au vin...incredibly tasty stuff. Nick and Emily joined us later, and we had a great time snarfing cake and ice cream--even with our entertainment for the evening, the book, "Very Bad Poetry" which Emily brought as one of my presents. How bad is it? Hehhehheh...

*ahem*

ODE ON THE MAMMOTH CHEESE, weighting over 7000 pounds
By James Mcintyre

We have seen thee, Queen of Cheese,
Lying quietly at your ease,
Gently fanned by evening breeze,
Thy fair form no flies dare seize.

All gaily dressed soon you'll go
To the great Provincial show,
To be admired by many a beau
In the city of Toronto.

Cows numerous as a swarm of bees,
or, as the leaves upon the trees,
It did require to make thee, please,
and stand unveiled, queen of cheese.

May you not recieve a scar as
We have heard that Mr. Harris
Intends to send you off as far as
The great world's show at Paris.

Of the youth beware of these,
For some of them might rudely squeeze,
And bite your cheek, then songs or glees
We could not sing, Oh! Queen of Cheese.

We'rt thou suspended from balloon,
You'd cast a shade even at noon,
Folks would think it was the moon,
About to fall and crush them soon...

Poor Nick jammed in earplugs soon after we had worked our way through some of the horrible, horrible poems...

Emily and I stayed behind after everybody else left, and played with the Bunneh. Shamu was a charming little fellow for much of the evening, shyly coming up for pets or hiding in his litter box when things were a bit loud. Emily asked if she could pet the bag of angora wool I'd gotten from Shamu's old owners, and we spent some time carding it up and stuffing it in a new bag...Unfortunatly, since I'm a new bunny owner, I didn't realize how excited Shamu would be about all this angora wool on our hands. I'm sure he recognized the smell of his former co-bunnies, and started to lick our hands and make tiny, soft grunts. I knew from my bunny books that this was er, courting behavior...then Shamu hopped into Emily's lap, where she was holding a big handful of grey angora, and pooped out many, MANY little rabbit-raisins, all over her and my couch. What is it with Emily attracting all the animal poop, anyway? We cleaned her up, cleaned the couch up, washed our hands quite a bit and put the bunny to bed, still whuffling and rubbing his cheeks on our hands...

This morning he seems to be back to his old self, but I've learned an important lesson: Keep fresh angora away from the bunny!

I was planning on it at some point...he does seem to be just fine now, as long as I keep the fascinating bags of angora away from him. I wanted to at least give him a week to get used to me and the house before I took him to the vet. I think this coming week I'll make an appointment.
