Another happy evening in the Shire...
May. 8th, 2009 08:02 amI swear, living on the Island makes me feel more and more like a Hobbit every day. I came home to a fine convocation of riffraff on my patio furniture, complete with the goats plural and a large duck-curry pie in the making. I had Phil and Karen, who were also smoking a beautiful piece of pork in the smoker, Ben and Peaty, who were still very stoked from the New York Times article about the chicken coop, and Captain Emily, who had been drawing fabulous monsters for weeks. Her masterpiece of the day was a piece I ended up naming, "Yodeling Nipple-Frog" which amused her no end. We all competed fiercely, but Ben the Neighbor won, as he has cash in hand and we'd all have to go sprinting to our homes to go get money. I hope she does a series, and I've already agreed to write text for the didactic for it:)
The petting zoo was in full force, since I brought Shamu outside to play in his rabbit playpen.
After some burrowing under my chin in apprehension, he got into it and frolicked around. And nosed my cellphone...

Finally the pies were done--one was the amazing duck-curry pie. It had carrots in it. I hate cooked carrots, but these were wonderful! The crust was amazing, with a secret ingredient added--goose fat. We all looked at Pierre the Goose with speculation in our eyes after we finished off that yummy, yummy pie. Then there was dessert--a rhubard, strawberry and blueberry pie, still oozy and hot from the oven. So much yum in one place, people!!!
I went to bed full and tired, and happy. After last night, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a couple of hobbits hightailing it out of the garden, yelling, "Look! MUSHROOMS!"
