I woke up some time around midnight to a huge thunderstorm, lightning flickering and huge crashes that echoed across the river cliffs. Thunderstorms where I live always sound louder than usual because the cliffs echo and amplify the booms. I bolted up in bed, and ran over to close the windows by Shamu, who was cowering in his litterbox. I petted his tiny rabbit head for a while, then crawled back into bed and listened to the thunder rolling down the river banks to the waterfall below...

Probably not a coincidence, but later that morning I was dreaming I had to eject an entire high school marching band from the Jade Mines, complete with drums and tuba. Terrible dream. I had to wake up enough to convince myself that, yes, I did have to go to work today, and no, there shouldn't be an entire horn section trying to break into the building...I hate those anxiety dreams where I'm at work, and then after waking up work is still waiting for you.

So now I'm here, in my little clip-on tie, fortified by Island eggs and a really marvelous cake Melika brought in for her birthday. But I'm still anxious. The thunder, the lightning, the marching band...*shudder*

Oh dear. *makes a note to check if your storm's coming this way*

I once told the dispatcher that Stan and I were having work anxiety dreams and we were going to be submitting our bills for all the work we did overnight.
And you believe it? He ignored me!

I empathize deeply with Shamu. Since childhood whenever there's been thundering and lightning around here, I've always searched for a safe place to hide; usually a closet. :)

This made me laugh. I can just picture you scurrying about, trying to herd them out the doors. Screaming and pointing.

Closets are great hiding places...Shamu prefers under the bed or, failing that, under the chair where I keep his chilling-out pillow. He might share, he might not. It's sobering to have a 3 and a half pound bunny shove you off his favorite cushion...

Didja know I was almost hit by lightning twice? Both *inside* houses!! One was near an open window and the shock knocked me across the room. The other time my apartment was just off the elevator shaft with a lightning rod in it. Again, thrown like a rag doll. I'm apprehensive about storms ever since:)

Mostly screaming, I fear....It was just so horrible...and funny, now that I think about it:)
