It's kind of fun getting a chance to catch up with everybody and their lj's...when it's up. D'ohhhhh...

Wow, lookit all the people...

*Peek*

...Looks like there's some fun in Toronto these days. *siigh* I need me a nice vacation.

A friend's been talking about hard-core backpacking for a week in the fall. (Yes, that would be lovely running around in the woods so, but I balk at two bits. )
Bit #1: I'd have to invest in a frame backpack, so I can:
Bit#2:hike wayyy out for miles with a tent strapped to me. Every day for a week. That's not a vacation; that's boot camp, in my humble opinion.

ummm...anybody wanna sell me a cheap frame backpack?

MsEff...anybody makes me unhappy in this potential camping thing, I WILL pull a Blair Witch sort of thing until we go home. Rocks in mysterious piles. Shrieks in the dead of night. Twig dollies. The really good granola bars, ah, "disappearing." Etcetera...

Oh, you'd be so much more comfortable on my living room sofabed here in sunny California.

ooooo...you were online on the weekend and I missed it?!

I agree with you about the backpacking thing. I can "rough" it to a small degree, but not that rough.

My work friend and his wife went backpacking for their honeymoon. She didn't say a word for the last three days or the next week after...

You can camp in our back 40 any day... I just have to create a plausible reason for why I know you... ;)

I can loan you some gear if you need it, but I wouldn't recommend you go.

Hardcore backpacking is not for the inexperienced, unless you have an experiened guide, and if you're not in shape for it, you don't want to go with an expreienced person.

I don't have an experienced guide, either. And I'm not in shape for it, that's certain. (Sclurps coffee with extra cream and sugar.)

I think that's another reason why I'm fretting about this--it sounds not just stupid but potentially dangerous. Of course this is off in the future a ways, which buys me wiggle room...maybe I can talk my mother into visiting me that very week. Oh, shucky darn, can't go camping, family obligations, I'm sure you understand...*grin*

thanks, Kev. (And for the sage advice too--I could use it.)

Ummmm..I stole a nice 2 million dollar painting for you? *Holds up pretty "suprise present " for the wife*

Heehee...Actually seeing the hobby farm sounds nice. Hi, Mikail!

I think it's insane, personally, for somebody who goes backpacking maybe *once* a year if they're lucky to want to rough it to this extreme degree. Bri thinks he's Davy Crockett. (We've even gone camping before a time or two, fairly long hike-ins uphill and such, and it was a highly unenjoyable experience.)

Maybe I can talk his buds into gong with him so I can stay home and hang with the gurls...maybe do some Extreme shopping and such. Hard-core massage spas. Intermediate to advanced go-go dancing. Awwwwyeah...

Ms Eff, thinking at light speed...

The danger potential is there but not high. The big problem is the pain and suffering potential. You'll be hurting on the second day (and therefore the entire rest of the trip). Or you might not bring enough food - or too much and get stuck carrying it, or the bears (or raccoons) might take your food away from you when you're two days walk to your car.

If the trip sounds kind of fun, I could give you suggestions for making it easier.
