Why can't we have a parade every weekend?
May. 7th, 2001 09:18 amI went to the May Day parade this weekend. (Did I mention it's one of my favorite things in the world?) Locally we have a *really* good one, put on for 27 years so far by In the Heart of the Beast Puppet Theatre...I sat curbside with Phill and Bri eating burritios from the Mercado and getting showered with rose petals. This year the theme was extremely Tibetan in nature, in tribute I think to the visit of the Dalai Lama. There were paper lotuses everywhere, and my friend Douglas the Egg-Carton Samurai was the Monkey King, spreading rose petals everywhere on a giant lotus float. (I had a lot of friends in the parade this year...the Priscillas painted lotuses on my hand and face, and I waved to various friends on stilts.) The weather was very dramatic this year---wind and a bit of rain, clearing up just in time when the red canoes came over the lake with the Sun, and the wind died down and gusted up at the best moments...The weather has a love for the theater!!!
I ran into quite a few old friends afterwards, wandering around looking at the giant puppets up close and munching kettle corn. (I'm e-mailing them later today.) One mentioned a weekend flea market at Monticello that let you sell whatever you wanted on Sundays...Anybody pondering what I'm pondering?
*Pinky: "I think so, Brain, but this time you put the rubber pants on the chimp. Narf! "
(Okay, that's probably not what anyone was thinking. I was thinking of making some dolls and taking them to the market...so there!)
It is hard to be back at work now...especially after having such a good time yesterday.
Ms Eff,who misses her hot-pink lotus face-painting already...well, maybe I can mehindi one on my arm when I go home. I have the technology...I can make myself more henna'd than before...
