The Mystery of the Turtle People...
Dec. 7th, 2005 06:27 am...I was at Knitting Night with the usual suspects, and the subject of the Windowsill Turtle came up. After I described it's location, Mamichan told me that the people who live in that apartment are seriously strange, in more ways than just the turtle thing.
Apparently they like to change the color of the lightbulbs in the window daily, a color for every day of the week. Also she's seen them hanging out of their windows trying to clean them, and has occasionally seen them streaking around juuuust a little close to those nice clean windows. It really is a special neighborhood we all live in here...
Afterward the Queen of Stuff and I monkeyed with the spinning wheel for a while with a pair of pliers, a screwdriver, a hammer, some black roving and a large handful of matchsticks. (The matchsticks were the big inspiration--the wheel itself is much steadier now that we wedged them into the spokes.) I spun some roving in the wheel, occasionally losing my beat or letting go of the wool...but it's just starting to finally click a bit. I think once I've mastered the tension brake and gotten some more practice I'm in business...it's just a good thing I'm as stubborn as I am:)
OOk! forgot my tie!
