Weekend! Weekend! Weekend GOOD!!!
Jun. 25th, 2006 09:28 am...Oh man, did I need this. I'm going out to Hell's Kitchen later with Ben the Neighbor and some other friends.
Ben and I used to go fairly regularly--I mean, it's a place with blood-red walls and ravens and vultures hanging from tree branches, and amazing food and Bloody Marys that look more like gazpacho than a drink. The perfect place for two tasteful Goths with some money burning a hole in their little black pockets...
I am trying to be a little careful with the money, though, because of my upcoming surgical whatsit. But only a little--I may need that funky incense or goofy box of Pocky to cheer me up after, and such. (I don't have the best update for that yet, BTW...I called some refferals, they haven't called back yet; I'm calling again Monday. Which is still downtime for me.) Oh, just remembered--I get paid for the 4th of July, too, since it's my day off anyway. It's nice having a job where I'm not as worried about the bills...how strange that I get paid more for wearing the monkey suit than for fixing copiers and sorting mail. Weird stuff, maaan.
At Pride I ran into a bunch of really good booths. Many for the ousting of Our Beloved El Presidente. (I picked up lots of flyers.) One of them was organised by an old friend from High School--it was good to see her; she looked happy and well and her kidlet was a cutie and a half. I also ran into the Mother Bear Project for knitting bears for AIDS orphans in Africa, so I picked up a pattern. I ogled jewelry and snuffled the sugar-and-hot-grease-laden air...ahhhh, that smell is really what summer's about--the sweet-fat smell of an outdoor festival. And incense! Some clever booth was burning Kyphi in an outdoor braizier, and it smelled so intoxicating my friend bought some...it's now burning in the living room. (I HAVE to get some of my own, it just smells that good.)
Lessee...speaking of knitting, looks like the Knitting Peoples wanna meet Wednesday instead of Tuesday. I can do that. I'll be working so I'll be a bit late (around 6), so save me a chair won'tcha? I can show off the bear pattern and stuff.
Plus it sounds like I may have a BIG commision in the near-future for more button-eyed critters with guts; so I should crank out a few just to be ready...(I have pictures. I'll find some time to download them later.)
