One of the nice things about where I live is waking up to the roosters. You'd think I'd mind the crowing, but it's much quieter than you think. I'm guessing the roosters are sleepy too, just not putting their hearts into it. Either that or I've been exposed to nasty city sounds so long that something like the roosters are quiet in comparison...

I dragged myself out of bed and puttered a bit in the kitchen, making scrambled eggs from the chickens. I'm still feeling very spoiled whenever I look into the fridge and see about a dozen or so of brick-red, waxy white or tiny green eggs. Now I've finished breakfast and I'm just checking email and whatnot with my view of the river outside the window. This time of year you get lots of fun boats...little kayaks and canoes, or people fishing. Occasionally one of the big steamboats full of happy people glides by, or a huge barge carrying mounds of mysterious, um, moundage and pushed by a tugboat...

And right now there's nobody. It's too early.

Did I mention this place has little goldfinches? There seems to be a nest out by one of the park fields with trails...I was waking home on it the other night and saw about 4 or 5, just whizzing through the trees and cheeping at each other. There's swallowtail butterflies too. And tons and tons of bunny rabbits...

Okay, I'm gushing. Theres other stuff here too, like opossums and raccoons which aren't really as friendly as a bunny...but I reckon my point is that it's beautiful here. When life gets hectic I feel so much better just sitting on my beat-up couch and gazing off into the greenness...
