I'm probably going to sound horribly rude or something, but who is Paul Wellstone and why is everyone worried now?

My sympathies to the people of Minnesota (and the country). It's a terrible tragedy.

He was our Democrat senator running for reelection against Norm Coleman, Bush's hand-picked Republican choice.

Plus, he felt like everyone' s scrappy super-smart neighbor down the street; you couldn't help liking the man. I pinned a lot of our hope for the state on his reelection. A lot of us did.

We're all pretty damn broken up about it.

He was running for reelection against Bush's choice for state senate. We're in BIG trouble with him gone, regionally and nationally. Paul was one of the toughest liberal senators left, and voted against going to war with Iraq.

Plus his family is also dead with him.
It's terrible.

Mine's in Florida and long ago gave up on Florida politics. But some of us remain Minnesotan voters in our hearts forever. Besides, this has such an impact on the entire country...

Yeah...the Bushies could get the whole Senate if we lose this race:(

And amazingly, Jesse the Body had a more succinct, kind eulogy for Paul than Mr. Bush did. I was in turns amazingly touched, (Jesse) and irritated. (Bush..."plain speaking"? Try eloquent, you yuppie loser!)
