Arty stuff...
Nov. 1st, 2003 07:56 pmI was getting artwork ready to travel and called the lady who's setting up the coffeehouse show.
A:"You know setup's tomorrow, don't you?"
Me:"Nooo, I didn't know that. I could have sworn you mentioned today being setup. That's okay though--when should I bring the art in?"
A: "We'd like to do it at close."
Me:"When do you close?"
A:*Mumble*
Me: "Sorry, I didn't catch that. When do you close again?"
A: "Midnight."
Me:"MIDNIGHT?!?! I can't do midnight on a Sunday!"
A: "Well, How about Tonight at close?"
Me: "Uhhh...I was invited to a party...Can we figure something out?"
A:" Give me your number, I'll talk to the owner and get back to you..."
This whole thing is making me really uncomfortable. I've put stuff up in coffeeshops all over town, and this is the first one to expect an after-close setup; especialy so late. When I wanted to do e-mails about the art going up and tried to include the other artist's last name (which I didn't know) A. told me she didn't know it either. She hasn't called me back yet, either. (Which doesn't suprise me; she's been really hard to reach through this whole thing; especially if she had something bad to tell me, like I've been backed up 4 months.)
I smell the possible stench of another coffee-house disaster looming.
If things get really unreasonable tomorrow, I think I'll just have to tell them to stuff it and forget about the whole thing. I don't need them to market my work. It'll suck having to cancel the Monday coffee-art night, but maybe I can think of something else clever. For now, though, it's on--and if that changes, I'll let people know right away.
Meanwhile I'm trying to relax a bit and get ready to go to the Loring Pasta bar...and then a party:)
