If you've got a ceramic pot, you probably don't need one (for the purposes of keeping the tea warm). But a metal pot should have a cosy. And a funky cosy would be decorative in any case. :)

Yes, over-the-top is probably easiest to use - unless you did it like a drawstring bag with holes for the handle and spout... ;P
