Turtle...

...I was walking home last night and while I was waiting for a light to change I noticed a turtle sitting on a second-floor windowsill of an apartment building. A turtle? A turtle!!!

The light changed and after I'd crossed I went up to the window and examined it as closely as I could. As far as I could tell it was a real turtle that had been taxidermied, and it's owner had positioned it outside the window, looking in wistfully. For the first few seconds I'd thought, "Did someone leave that poor thing outside to freeze?" I'm assuming whoever did it had the express purpose of making passersby (like yours truly) stop and go, "Hey, look! Turtle on a windowsill! Turtle on a windowsill!!!"

This and the cut-out head of John Malkovich in another apartment window make my neighborhood really interesting to walk in at 5 am...

So there you are...

That's odd.
And that's interesting.

So was it there today as well? I'm just thinking, you know, Turtles aren't known for hyper active shilly shallying around...., not sure I could recognise if one was stuffed or "just not moving much" from 2 storey's down?

I wondered that too, so I stared at the turtle for what must have been about 5 minutes, and no moving was observed by this Maus. I checked yesterday morning and this morning as well...yesterday he was in the exact same position. This morning he was covered in snow. He didn't look dessicated or anything like reptiles get when they die, either, so I'm going with the "Stuffed turtle on a windowsill" theory for now...

I suppose you could creep up on it and poke it with a long pointy stick? Not that I'm trying to get you in trouble or anything :)
