Hotness...
Jul. 1st, 2006 08:57 amThis is my least favorite time of year...the Hot bit. Really hot, really sticky, really unpleasant. I have long hair, so I feel like a suffocating sheepdog if I don't tie it up or something when I go out into the "soup". I don't like using a/c too much, but I will happily wallow in the stuff now that it's July and my bluff is well and truly called. Too hot to knit, but I do it anyway. Too hot to spin, but I want to do it anyway. Hot, hot hot...
There are a few strategies I use to get over the hump until I get cooler weather. These strategies are:
Spring rolls. Lots of 'em.
Popsicles, when I remember to buy them.
Cold baths...sometimes with a bath bomb. Oh gods, that's a really good one...Mmmm...
Reading something comforting. Hey, when's the new Harry Potter out, anyway?
A silk nightshirt for sleeping in. Sweet soft comfort.
Club soda with some kind of exotic juice, extra ice.
State Fair. Things on sticks really make me very happy--and the rabbit and sheep exhibits!
Sweet corn. I can eat corn on the cob until I pass out. Really.
Telling myself about all the good things I'll do when autumn comes...
So there you are...

Date: 2006-07-01 02:26 pm (UTC)Iced tea with exotic juices - or maybe just added to the soda water - and lots of ice is nice. Refreshing.
And...the new Harry Potter probably comes out NEXT year. Have you read "A Gothic Romance" by Joyce Carol Oates? I don't usually like her stuff, but I liked that and it occupied a good share of one very hot summer for me.
Stay cool, mausie.

Date: 2006-07-01 04:12 pm (UTC)I would have said "I hate summer" - Which I do.
It got up to 98 here yesterday. I miss being able to have the windows open. I love outside air.
