...I was leaving my apartment complex to head out for work when I saw a guy sleeping on the foyer couch, snoring away. He didn't have a coat or anything; just one of those awful sports jerseys and dangly ugly gold chains. I'm guessing he must be the boyfriend of someone who tossed him out of their apartment or something:/
It was a bit of a flashback to the Crackstack for a moment there, though I've no doubt the managers will sort it all out when they open the office...which is the difference between my new building and the old one.

Anyway, back at workies some more. There's lots of people coming in this week, mostly people with family from out of twon, being shown the sights. They're pretty well behaved for the most part--no meltdowns from anybody so much as wheedling--wheedling to be allowed their humongous backpacks, wheedling for their adult baby-bottles of water, wheedling in one case to be allowed to bring their puppy into the museum. (I've no problem with puppies. I *like* puppies. But I have a vision of a puppy chewing on some of our two-hundred-year-old furniture that won't go away.) And then of course there's the touching of stuff, as usual. I told someone yesterday, "You know, we could put up a giant stinging jellyfish with a big sign next to it saying, "Great big stinging jellyfish; do not touch!" and I guarantee you people would be touching it every five minutes."
It's true. Jobs like this add a new dimension to understanding human behavior.

And of course I have a job that people don't understand very well sometimes. One of our new guards told me that her brother's friend was being unkind about her new line of work. (The lady in question sounds like a piece of work herself; calling her, "Little people" and whatnot.) There are some behaviors that act like a grat big red button for me and one of the biggest is someone on their high horse belittling someone for a job they think beneath them. These are usually people who haven't really dealt with the world of employment in any serious way, and often they get a pretty big shock when they're not automatically handed the position of Great Bitch Queen that they assume is theirs by right....we all told our new guard to be of good cheer, this babe sounds like she makes herself miserable and tries to make others miserable too so she can feel better. People like that are their own worst enemy in the end...

And on that cheery note, I'm off to punch in. Happy Friday, peoples!
