...Okay, painting the trim in my Rainy Day Craft Room Bitter Chocolate, sor a sort of sophisticated brownish-black:) Right now most of the trim is in the first coat; the "My god, this looks horrible" coat...but the stuff I slapped a second coat on looks deeeelicious. I forgot just how much work it is to paint a room and have it look okay, and I know when I'm on the ladder later doing the top trim I'll be cursing my ambitious nature...but it really does look awfully pretty with the autumn red I put on the walls.

I'm getting used to my new place very slowly. Sometimes I stare at the walls in confusion and wonder how the heck I ended up here. (I've even ended up in tears, it's been so disorienting.) I calm down pretty fast when I look at the river, though. And last night my new neighbors moved in a small drop-leaf table and a futon for me. It's amazing how generous these people have been so far. (I get to pay a few of them back these next-two weeks; I'm cat-wrangling while some of them are in New York.) Maybe it's just a measure of just how bad the old tenant of this place used to be, but now that I've moved in all sorts of stuff is happening at my cheerful Yellow house...Every time I come home there's a new potted plant or cheery glass ornament on the porch. We have a new garden path connecting the house to the others in the co-op. Rocky is keeping his eye out for a nice garden table to put under the apple tree outside my window for midnight picnics. Peaty has been attacking the weeds in the side garden with ferocious gusto, and I keep going into the house with a present of eggs or goose feathers or homemade yoghurt or pear butter...

So now every time I feel a little panicky I try to tell myself, "Hey, don't be a fraidy-Maus, you're in a really nice place; it's all going to be just fine..."

So there you are...
