...It isn't suprising to find out I've been knitting harder now it's cold. I did a bit after a lovely dinner last night, and more this morning. People have been asking me to make hats and gauntlets, and I cackle and rub my hands, saying, "why suuuuure, but it'll cost ya!" Hehhehhehhhhh...

Maybe it's just my body trying to use up all that sugar I ate this weekend. Maybe it's a nervous twitch. Possibly it's stress-relief. All I know is, it makes me a happy little beastie. I should have brought some in with me today. I just have to settle for plotting various knitting projects for when I'm home.

So far I have:

The body of a grey sweater I've been making with yarn I spun myself.
The beginning of a new cowl made from some very soft Noro I bought.
The yarn for a fox-hat with cute ears for Captain Emily.
Notes for red gauntlets for the girl I made the devil-hat for.
A red and black sock I keep working on when I need a change...

Gee,and that doesn't even count the creeatures with the guts and the button eyes I should start making again. It's definitely time, and past time...

The secret to sweaters is lots of movies on the couch...well-loved movies you can half-watch while you knit. That's how I get through mine:)

Mm hm. Or tv reruns you're not that vested in, perhaps. At least it's largely just stockinette for a while here so I could actually not look that closely. :)

I think I can get it all going; it's just the usual pre-holiday rush. If I need extra time I bully the people who ask me into giving it to me:) So far, anyway. Maybe I need a knitting machine.

I hope this intrusion in your journal is allright with you!! I am a friend of Cynnerth's (whom I met from pondhopper. Cynnerth and vocalist visited here last summer with pondhopper.)and I read Cynnerth's recent post about visiting you. Great! Let me know if you have any questions about Chris's yarns. I am a quilter, and have friends who are big into knitting as well as all kinds of other crafts. I'm a terrible knitter....I drop stitches and get all uptight when I knit, so gave it up and decided to concentrate on quilting! I like the pictures of the house you live in. Very cool!

Oh you are one of those who actually know how to knit! And actually complete projects by doing so. I am so envious. There is so much else at which I am proficient to accomplished, such as decorating, floral arranging, cookery, sewing, assemblage, printmaking, photoshop, writing, lyrics, removing cat hair from black clothing, etc. but knitting and crocheting- nyet, nein, nada, non, nichts!!!

I go brain dead at the prospect of having to go one teensy weensy stitch at a time to my destination. Too many small steps between me and my goal. Drives me insane. So kudos to you for having the patience of a, well, knitter.

I've no doubt if there is a heaven, all who knit surely at get automatic entre through the pearly gates...!

Heh, I like to think of it as channelling all those obsessive little instincts into something pretty...

Besides, it's good that there are people who don't knit--we can make things for them once we knitters make too many hats and gloves and whatnot for ourselves. It's an occupational hazard we have, too many accesories:)

I just thought of something...I friend once brought me back an antique gecko tube-knitted of silver wire from Bali (they used to melt down the Dutch silver). It's about 6 inches long and I use it as a hat ornament. It is so cool, because the tail is springy, and it tends to startle ppl into initially thinking it is a real lizard on my head. Hehe!

But anyway, it would be great to have a hat knitted to look like a lizard head with eyes bugging out, and wearing the gecko pin on that...I even have a pic of the character I have in mind for the hat to look like.

If I paid for materials, would you take a commission for said lizardly chapeau? If you have any interest of course...

Sorry it took me a bit to get back to things. D'ohhhhhhh...

I think I could use a picture to think of how I could try something like that. I know it would take lots of shaping, and lots of labor. A lot of custom knitting isn't just the materials--which can be spendy for the good stuff--but also the hours of making those gecko eyes pop out just so and whatnot. Just estimating without seeing, I'm sure the combo of supplies and labor would be at least $100, maybe more depending on the details...

It might be better to talk to someone who sews instead of knits--the process would be speedier for sure, and definitely less spendy. But if you still want to try it, send me an email at michellelayland@hotmail.com and we'll talk...
