Subterranian adventures...
Oct. 24th, 2007 09:02 amYesterday I got off the bus about the same time Ben the Neighbor jumped off his bus--always a welcome thing. We trotted down to our street, and saw a pretty common sight on our happy Island--the freight train sitting on top of the tracks. Not moving, just chugging ominously. Ben grinned and said, "Hey, you wanna see the secret way around the train tracks?" "Sure, if it doesn't involve climbing between the cars or anything." And with that, he started climbing down the embankment under the bridge.
I followed, making the occasional "ooooooOooh!" noise. I'm not great at heights, and the way down was steep and looked pretty slidey. And of course I had two bags, a scarf that kept trying to get in the way and I was wearing a skirt on top of it all. But I made it down to the bottom without sliding, and we climbed back up the other side. (It was a lot easier than down, I have to say.) Half the time I was thinking, "I used to scramble up and down much more hilly, rocky stuff when I was a kid. I am definitely not a kid anymore by any stretch. Can I grab that branch over there? How about that one?"
*chuckle*
Anyway, Ben caught me up on the co-op news--the rental manager quit, which made me deliriously happy. Also, sounds like we're once step closer to getting rid of the disruptive neighbor, which made me happier still. I celebrated last night with pizza and tiramisu..
Aw crap; Fabio the lieutenant kicked the desk just now, and is snickering at my yelp of surpise. I must go give him a super-wedgie...

Date: 2007-10-28 03:12 pm (UTC)I meant to say that I was carrying bags and a scarf while wearing a skirt...I am the Queen of the easily misconstrued-funnily statements:)
