Holy crap, flashy lights!
Jul. 10th, 2008 07:04 amI was just drifting off to sleep last night when I heard a siren getting closer and red flashies showing up in my window. I sat up bolt upright. There was a firetruck out on my street, over by my neighbor Phyllis...
Back when I lived in Loring Park, this sort of thing was not uncommon; I lived close to the fire department and got sirens at least twice a week--often for the same sad, horrible Crackstack that used to be my home before my friends and I left it. I'd gotten used to being woken up by red flashing lights and somebody's burning couch or van or loud stupid alarm or whatever. One of the very nice things about my new neighborhood is it's quiet for the most part, except for the sounds of happy neighbors and the river and the far-off waterfall. I had no idea just how much I'd gotten used to all the sirens back then until last night and the firetruck.
Happily, I think everything's okay. It just hung out there for a while, and I must have drifted back off to sleep and dreamed about the firemen rescuing people from down the cliff. They went away without much of a fuss. I'll have to check with the neighbors to be sure, though. Anyway, I didn't sleep so hot, so I'm a little punchy, but it'll be okay, and I have another negotiation meeting today. Meh. At least I'm off my feet...
*looks carefully out window and is reassured by Phyllis's non-burnt looking building*
