It's hot and muggy and I'm a panting sheepdog of a woman in my long hair and black clothes. And yet I'm avidly looking forward to the State Fair, which is a month away. I'm obviously deranged from the heat.

I want turning leaves and apples and corndogs and winds that rattle the trees. I want beer gardens and light jackets. I want romantic harvest moons and pumpkins. I want school supplies even though I'm out of school. I want cool breezes and geese flying south. I want to make soup in my kitchen without it turning into a sauna...I wanna bake cupcakes!

I just have to get through the sticky stuff first. And the Republican National convention. We all might have to wear body armor locally for that. Then we can all have a really glorious fall, huh? My pumpkin plant is already giving me flowers, so I'm hoping for some nice big weird jack-o-lanterns when the time comes:) Meanwhile I'll just keep looking at the maples in my yard and wait ever so patiently for them to start turning yellow...

hey!

I was feeling fall this morning. I can tell that the sun isn't rising as early anymore.

Me too. It's like the cells in my body are anticipating fall, it's not even a thought or a memory...just this instinctive reaction.

"Romantic harvest moons and pumpkins".

Reminds me of "Night on Earth"... "Pumpkins. Warm, soft, damp, with seeds inside, so round -- and we would -- toom ta toom -- help me find the words, Father..."

And one boy, he was smarter than the rest of us, he figured out to use... pumpkins.

"I'm sure you'll agree, in growing up to be a sensitive, even religious man that love is something every man needs, but not with a vegetable, but with something alive ... something that moves, that's warm, that looks you in the eyes. Something with a soul..."

Damn, that movie cracks me up.

And stay away from Pete's goat while you're at it, you masher!! She's too young for you anyway!!

I do have to admit, that was the funniest part of the whole film...I'm scarred for life.

That was LOL funny! I also love the part with Yo Yo and Helmut, where Yo Yo gets annoyed with Helmut for comparing his name to the toy, after he compares Helmut's name with the "hat".
