It was Family Day at the Jade Mines today. Family Day usually means a day of agonized screaming from little hyperactive young creatures smeared with paint, but today everybody was pretty well behaved. There was paints and craypas, a potter, someone who did designs with porcupine quills, and *gasp* a SPINNER! I was very excited by this, and at my break went to go check it out.

But my timing was off--she was in the bathroom, and one of our education people was holding down the table, showing little kids a drop spindle and saying, "You spin with this, but I don't know how it works..."
I sidled up and stage-whispered, "I do!"
So I demonstrated how a drop spindle works for a bunch of happy kids.
Then, the education person had to take a call, but couldn't leave the table, and I whispered again, "I'm on break, I could baby-sit until she gets back!"
The lady gratefully ran off to take her call, and I played with the wool until the spinning lady came back. I introduced myself, explained why I was there, and we bonded over the spindles and the dyed wool. She explained some very good natural dye recipes to me, and I got her business card...

I practically floated back to my post later on. It completely made my day:) It was such a nice change of pace...

It was awesome:) I'm hoping they do that sort of thing again, because I'd be happy to volunteer. In fact, Cow-irker Gail was volunteering me to the nice education lady...and saying, "I bet she'd dress up too; with a bodice and one of those big hats with the curly bits on the sides and stuff!" She's evil, but she was actually pretty funny about it:)

What a wonderful experience! It was not only fun for you, but it made a lot of difference to the kids in the experience they had. You're like the fairy godmother of spinning wheels.

The kids had a really good time petting all the wool and watching me spin...it was even more fun with two spinners at once:)
