A nice, jam-packed weekend...
Aug. 31st, 2008 09:09 amNooo, not jam-packed like smeared with gobs and gobs of jam...
I went shopping at Magus Books and picked up an awesome present for Ben the Neighbor's birthday--Roger Williamson's new Major Arcana tarot deck. He'd been working on it for a while, so I was really happy to hear it had come out. I bought one for Ben, one for me, and spent some time chatting away with Roger about the cards, artistic inspiration, and how funny it was that Minneapolis apparently now has a better Pagan scene than New York. (I say apparently because the last standing occult shop in Manhattan seems to be really struggling--almost no books or supplies to buy; the herbs on the shelves all dried out, stuff like that.)
We also stopped to see the Pink Satan on Friday night. She lives in downtown St.Paul...Holy crap, people! At the time the actual convention was three days away and all the cordons were being put up. There were cops everywhere, and many of the major ramps were closed off. The Fox News tent was frickin' huge. We circled for a while trying to get past the scary perimeter to get to Liz's place, and finally got through after a couple of guys putting up big construction barricades let us squeak through. We managed to get to our destination and had a great time...but wow...and I guarantee it's much worse now. The RNC is creeping everybody out here, I tellya.
Yesterday was a beautiful slackful day, full of spinning wool outside and drinking beer on the back yard furniture and catching up with the neighbors. The island got buzzed a few times by helicopters...big black helicopters. Apparently the Feds are determining if our tiny humble island is a threat to the security of the nation. It was all I could do not to wave...
So, to sum up:
1: Occult book stores in Minneapolis: Good!
2: Downtown St. Paul...Beware! Beware!
3: Backyard sitting: A most wonderful thing, even with the Men in Black peeking at me from above, playing with my spinning wheel...
so there you are...

Date: 2008-09-01 04:25 pm (UTC)Heeheehee, I can see it now--the Feds breaking in my door, rifles posed: "Alright you goddamn commie hippie pinko Satanist, hit the floor! Hands over your head! Tell us where the teapot is! Do you have honey? WHERE'S THE GODDAMN HONEY!!!!!"
"Sir, I found the cupcakes! They're chocolate orange!"
"Chocolate...like brown people!! That shameless commie!! Dammit, stop eating the evidence, corporal!!!!"
"Mfflff mfffff" *chew chew chew*
"You have the right to remain silent...you have the right to watch us eat all the cupcakes and make us more chocolate mint tea! You have the right to clean up all the crumbs and stuff when we wreck your kitchen looking for extra cookies! Do you understand these rights I've read to you, Ma'am?..."
Sadly, these days it's probably not too far from the real deal right now:(
