Where do I start? It's all so funny...

I was plowing through the work day at the Jade Mines, mentally getting ready for the things I wanted to cover on the Morbidly Inclined Art Tour, when one of the Info guides came up and asked me, "It's you doing the Morbid tour, right? You're not having masks or anything, are you?"
"Uhhhhh...yes it's me, and no I'm not."
Turns out someone in visitor services stumbled onto my tour info on Google, then posted it in the Phone Office. Before long, the entire building knew the tour was going on...but thought someone in Education was running the show. Eventually it all got cleared up, but not before my boss poked his head into the breakroom and asked me, "Are you having a tour tonight? With costumes?"
"Costumes if people want them, but no masks, I promise." I replied.
Hooboy...apparently my bosses were talking with the captains in case this became a big security thing. The last time I gave a tour we had enough people to log in at the front desk and everybody was wearing fabulous Batman costumes, which is what everybody remembered...

At any rate, this time it was much smaller, about four people...or so I thought. The Pink Satan and her swell fella Nick showed up, and Captain Emily too. Gaily-Waily the cow-irker had been pestering me to get the Info desk to announce my tour, or to steal someone else's tour, anything to add more people. I told her it's more fun to have random people join up and then break off when I started talking about unscrupulous mummification or decapitation or something. But just when I was getting my wee group organized to go, two more people came up and said, "Are you the Morbidly Inclined group? We're here for the tour!" Turns out that Gaily-Waily, when asked what tours were available, had listed mine FIRST, the little minx. When informed about the other tours available, the two said, "We want to go on that morbid thing, that sounds like the best one!" And it was, bebeh!!

The two extra people turned out to be fantastic--a mother and her eight year old. The mom was beautiful, clever and funny, and the kid--Oh god, the kid. He was in a beige plaid suit and bowtie, and was easily the smartest, cutest, funniest kid I'd ever met. When his mom told us they were having a date night, the kid piped up, "I just wanted to let you know I'm not a dwarf!" When I did the talk about the Dead-Kid memorial paintings, he told me, "You know, being a child, the section you just told me about is really creepy!" I apologized my head off, and he just kind of grinned. We had a great time...Emily and I had our now-traditional fight about the haunted rooms, and took turns telling stories about the Jade Mines. (We also thumb-wrestled, and Emily won. Again.) The mom and kid both seemed like they had a great time, and I'd be happy to have them back whenever they wanted:)

After a rewarding time having Nick explain how the flintlock rifles worked in the rotunda, we decided we were starving and sallied forth to Jasmine 26 for a late dinner...I just felt so proud of us all, I could barely contain it. There is definitely going to be a November tour, and this time I will reassure my boss that no really, there will be no harm whatsoever, I promise. And this time I'll give enough lead time that more of my cow-irkers who aren't guards can come too...

Now is the part of the night where I flop onto the couch and pretend I'm boneless for a while...what a great night.

I know, and they were freaking out from that one batman costume...but everyone else was dressed so wonderfully in costumes, I guess they just weren't used to that. *shrugs* I thought my cow-irker Eric was especially stunning in his Robin outfit:)

She could rock the bow-tie anyway, even though it's very 80's for a girl to wear a bow tie...
