Ya wanna know why? I'll tell you why! Because it has a cute bunny!!!

Alfred the Bunny...a charmer if there ever was one...

And, speaking of bunnies, the Peat has offered me a horrible, insidious offer...a rescue bunny, angora, black, who needs a warm loving home. He's offered to come over and babysit if I'm not home, if only I would take him into my life and living-room. My strict no-pets policy is crumbling around me. (It was the damn sea-monkeys that were the thin edge of the wedge here, I knew they'd be trouble.) I...I'm having thoughts. Because I'm having thoughts, I wondered what you, my beloved friends, would recommend. Would you recommend:

A: Get over your whining and take the damn bunny already!
or,
B: No, you're not home that much, and when you are you're busy, and your folks are allergic, and the earth would cave in and the sun would freeze if you did that, silly Maus...

I think I may know the answer already, but it's more fun to hear people say it...

I know very little about the needs of bunnies. Do they need to be walked? Do they emit little bunny pellets all over your apartment that need to be picked up individually with tweezers? Can they be toilet-trained? Can they be left alone during the day? Do they eat cables and wiring? Does their food have to be specially prepared?

I think that if you're dedicated and faithful, and if if you don't have to take it to work, you can probably make time to handle whatever demands a bunny puts on you. But, just as with any other pet, you should have a realistic idea of all the demands before you take on the responsibility.

That's what I'm balancing out right now...funny enough, I have had bunny pets in the past, so I know what they need and what they do...but it was a little traumatic, and I can't really get into it here.

But I think perhaps it wouldn't kill me to have a pet.

My aunt had a bunny for years. They can be potty trained almost like a cat. The big drawback is that they chew (and ultimately destroy) almost everything lol. My aunt's bunny chewed through a bunch of wires and got zapped a couple times. So you'd have to bunny proof your house.

I'm just glad I bought *lots* of electrical tape...they really do chew a LOT. I think before I take any bunny-action I should check a few websites to fine-tune my apartment for this kind of thing.

Actually, I'm going to vote against a bunny of your own. Not for the reasons you stated, but because all your neighborhood pets will have to share your love. You'll be a traitor!

It's a true thing...all the kittehs will be upset with me, I know it!

My dad is actually allergic to the angora sweater I wore the last time I saw them...but he's allergic to cats too, and they have four. Now my mom is pushing me too, even with the Bunny Incidents I dealt with as a kid:/

Can you tell me more about the rescue bunneh?

I think other peoples' allergies should be the last thing on your consideration list. I mean, how often do they come to your house?

I do not know why you have a no pet policy in the first place. Bunnies can be more work than cats, I think, and the chewing is a consideration, BUT it might be a lot of fun. It's nice to have someone be excited when you get home!

If you try it out and it isn't going well, do you have options for somewhere else for it to live?

it's tempting, really it is...but I have the no pet thing because I'm not home much, and when I am I'm busy trying to catch up on everything I haven't done...some days I'm afraid that one more responsibility will send me over the edge. Peaty has offered to look in on a pet bunny if I'm not home, but that just seems unfair--he has so many creatures to look after, I feel it's pushing the envelope to add one more.

I'll talk to Peaty about it. If it's a rescue bunny it may be shy and skittish too, which isn't much fun. I'll just talk it out and see how I feel about it.

While I should be pro bunny by being a hare alone, I am wondering if having a bunny around would cut into your prized putter time. The bunny will chew and poo. Although all that free fiber....hmmmmm

That's what's killing me the equation of bunny love versus time to putter and play with the Sweetie's kittehs and such. I'll have to have a very long talk with the Peaty about this, I think, before I make a real decision.
