...Even in the rain, I'm so happy walking to the bus stop and by all the trees. The flowers are finally coming out, and it's great...

...and I have wild cherry blossoms blooming in a vase on my coffee table. They're from a nice meander some friends and I went on the other day. We went down to the little washout cave on the side of one of the cliffs. (I consider myself very very brave, since the way down is a very narrow, steep goat-track with a 40-foot drop to the river, and I'm afraid of heights. But I made it with a minimum of whimpering.) We walked around the ancient community garden, now overgrown but full of daffodils and other renegade garden plants. It's one of my favorite corners of the island, along with the abandoned rose gardens Peaty's been helping to rescue and the leftover bits of marble and slate and granite from an old stonecutting factory...

It's nice that it's warm enough to explore again:)

It's wonderful that after all those months of arduous snow theft, you have such beauty around you. Here, spring's subtler, and there's much less contrast, but, still, the jacarandas are coming into bloom, and little pale purple flowers that look like tie-dyed daisies are rising up. There are fields of California poppies, which are much nicer than can be implied by their use as freeway plantings, and whatever wildlife hasn't been displaced or run over is making its move. Happy spring!

Ooh, I love poppies! And one of these days I must see a good spring in California. I lived there for a while as a tiny, tiny child but haven't been back since.

over the weekend here, the trees suddenly got leaves and all the wild fruit trees are blossoming (or have blossomed).

I love reading about your Island, I love your posts. And the idea of abandoned rose gardens sounds just plain old romantic.

Happy Spring, Mausie.

I should take a nice walking tour and take photos, just to share how pretty it all is...

Happy Spring, lady!

Here's a picture from the edge of the world (cave/outcrop at the north edge of Nicollet Island). Click for a larger view.

That's a great picture of Peaty and Karen! I'm behind you, clutching the ledge and muttering to myself:)
