It's very, very hard for me not to just run home and keep playing with wool. Terrible, obsessive Maus...

See, I'm trying for this very pale pink for some wool I'm spinning up for a friend of mine. Since most of the stuff I'm seeing online is just too bright, I'm dyeing my own. With the time-trusted, non-toxic Kool-aid and food-coloring trick. My first trial run is nice, but still a wee bit bright for what I'm going for. So of course I want to run home and try some more batches until I get the shade I want...

Which means I don't wanna be at work, I don't wanna be at work...but here I am, being a work--with Captain Emily behind me, poking the keys when I'm trying to type. Naughty(t) naughty thing!!! That extra T is all her, I tellya!...

How does that Kool-aid/food coloring thing work when cleaning said knitted goodie?

If you do it right, and the water's good and hot, it sets up just fine with a little vinegar. It doesn't wash out or anything, which is neat:)

Oh, I thought I'd cleaned you out, missy:)I thought you just had the bright, bright stuff...which is so much fun to make lots and lots of Rockn'roll Clown out of. (I'm happy to trade you some for the candy-like, deeeeelicious clown-yarn.)

No worries, I did get the shade perfected: half a packet of cherry Kool-Aid, a drop of blue food coloring,with a shot of vinegar for color-fastness. Woohoo!!

Aw, but it's fun to mix colors just so for the yarn in question...I want it to be good stuff! So I have more creative control if I'm doing some of the dyeing...

It's very sweet to offer a surprise! But really, it's not a necessary thing. You're both just so sweet...
