Attack of the Killer Tomato Soup...
Sep. 20th, 2009 07:55 pmI was just getting home from my travails, weighing the appeal of ordering pizza with making a nice vegetable something-or-other at home. Nice and simple, no fancy stuff. Until I run into Peaty. Peaty...and his humongous haul from the Kingfield farmer's market. Huge huge tomatoes! Large and sassy leeks! Eggplants! Hot and mild peppers! Carroty carrots!! And all for the taking, before they spoil and go to the chickens...
One hour later, I have my biggest kettle full of Farmer's Overkill Tomato Soup. It's got garlic, basil, leeks, about ten tomatoes, rosemary, one small hot pepper, some chicken stock, a little milk, and a touch of bacon to give it some je ne sais quoi...and now that it's cooled off enough to eat, pretty amazing. I have enough to freeze, even...

And I still have more fresh tomatoes to do ummmm...stuff with. I'm running out of stuff. Salsa? Maybe salsa...
