Lemon verbena and orange blossoms...
Sep. 27th, 2009 07:51 pmFinally it's getting cooler out. Shamu is a happy, happy rabbit, frolicking and playing in his fuzzy winter coat. He makes me a happier person, watching him run and play...
And with autumn comes the last harvests and the rescue of fragile plants on the Island. Minutes upon my arrival at home, I was greeted by the Peaty, who gave me two pepper plants, one rosemary plant, one wee orange tree and a lemon-verbena plant with oregano growing at it's feet. I've got them situated all over the apartment, and I have to say, the kitchen smells like heaven right now. I have oregano in with some chicken on the stove, waiting for white wine and potatoes.
I have lemon verbena branches drying on my dishcloth rack. And the orange blossoms smell just amazing...
I'll see what I can keep alive this winter. Ben the Neighbor tells me not to feel too bad if something like the rosemary kicks off; apparently they do that in the fall.
*sniffs the air in the kitchen some more*
Mmmmmm...
