Last night I did a great thing--I just lay on the floor, listening to Siouxie and the Banshees for a while. It reminded me of being in high school, moving out of my parent's house, the beat-up rooming house I lived in as my first place away from home...I remember listening to a lot of the Banshees on an old walkman while I did temp work at the IDS building. I was on the 47th floor, and could look out at the whole city spread out below me. I used to look at the Hennepin bridge, and Nicollet Island, and I swear I felt my future self walking around on the island. At the time I wrote it off as too much caffeine and not enough breakfast...

I think about how far I've come, and all the unexpected things and places life has taken me. I live on that Island now, walking down that bridge every day to go home to my goofy yellow house. I can hear the geese honking and freaking out with glee when Peaty feeds them.
I listen to the wind rushing through the trees and I'm so happy I can barely stand it all...

It makes me wonder what will happen in the next few years, and the next, and the next...

You know what's funny? I didn't realize you lived on an actual island. I figured it was a metaphor. Hee. Anyway, I'm glad things are going well. :)

Heh. yep, an actual island, one of only two islands on the Mississippi that are inhabited. We're all historial and whatnot, so we have tourists on Segways buzzing our houses about twice or three times a day when the weather's good. (The tour guides say our chicken coop has emus and donkeys. We have neither. Just sayin'...)

I managed to live here mostly through insanely good luck, and having friends who lived here first. Lucky meeee!

Me too...I just hope my luck holds. I'd be really sad if I had to leave this place.

That is such a cool realization... that your caffeine-fueled food-deprived vison quest in the IDS building foresaw your future stomping grounds...

Methink it will make a fine epic poemme some day hence...

I miss our highly infrequent meetings over coffee near Loring Park... {{{Mausi}}}
