I have a fun tradition that got started years ago with my friend, Ben the Neighbor. We'd stop off after work downtown to watch the St. Patrick's day parade. We'd cheer and clap and catch green beads and get green beer dumped on us by drunken passersby, then wedge ourselves into a bar for a Guinness. If it was physically impossible to get to the tasty beverages, we'd then bus home and make strange concoctions and eat french fries. It's a low-key tradition, but one I enjoy so much.
This year though, it's no go--I'm working and Ben's off to visit the parental units and make maple syrup. So last night to celebrate early Ben and I had some supper and drank wee leprechaun-sized Thin Mintinis, so we wouldn't feel sad today. We discussed the pros and cons of St. Patrick's Day for the Pagan communities, in between phone calls from various loved ones. Good stuff. I'm very lucky to have a friend like Ben the Neigbor...
So have a good day today, stay away from the green beer and may the snow melt enough to see a little more green grass today...
