I watched "Inception" last night...man, was it a fantastic movie! It was everything people said it was. But when it was over, and I came down from the wonder of it all, I started thinking, "That movie was awesome, but how did they get all the electrical stuff to work in their dreams? Why didn't the electronic just beep or not work or turn into banana pudding before their eyes? Perhaps they were supposed to be that disciplined in the dream state?" I know for me, and for a lot of people mechanical stuff is problematic when you're dreaming. Cellphones don't work, light switches don't go on or off, stuff like that. But overall I was really smitten--the totem-concept was a good one, too...some small thing that behaves differently from what it does in waking life, to let you know you're dreaming. Nobody else knows how it's supposed to behave, so you know if you're in your dream or someone else's. Cool stuff...

Of course, because I'd watched that movie I had lots of intense dreams. The last one had me complaining about my being massively overcharged at a thrift store, and trying desperately to write a note of complaint to the owner. But the paper was bad or my handwriting was awful, or the pens would bleed and obscure everything I'd just written. At one point I had to put down what I was writing with and complained loudly, "I have to stop using the frosting pen!" and stared at the hot-pink buttercream swirlys I'd just tried to write. I woke up startled and frustrated.

So now I'm calmed down, with tea and homemade marmalade, and the light switches all work fine...and so do the pens. I tried a couple just to make sure they weren't writing in frosting. I think I'm still a little sleepy...
