I have a schlocky catalog full of Halloween stuff in my hands...skulls and bats and goofy wigs and such...

Halloween is a'comin' soonish...(Okay, not real soonish) And yes, some of the stereotypes of witches can be insulting and degrading, but I appreciate that it's a chance for a part of our culture can cut loose for a while and embrace things they don't accept the other days of the year...

MS Eff, admiring the jack-o-lantern candles and the plastic bat-lanterns...

You've got a Halloween catalog? I'm jealous. I recently got a catalog from Seasons which showed Halloween stuff on the back cover. I was eagerly anticipating checking out all the nifty Halloween items in the catalog only to find there was a two-page spread and the back cover. The rest of the catalog had nothing to do with Halloween. It bummed me out. *frowning*

I can see having Halloween stuff in a catalog at the end of August so you have some time to decide, order, and receive the choice. But the thing that bugged me was not having much to speak of inside after getting my attention with the back cover.

Yeah, that was a pretty mean trick...we need better catalogs, mine did some of that too.:(

Well, I:

Go to parties and dance around in silly costumes..(Go fig)
Feed children candy in the apartment lobby
Dress up for work and run around like a freak
Secret Stuff Halloween night. (It's Samhain to me, so I do a small personal memorial thing for the ones I love who have died.)
Eat a lot of caramel apples
Wear a lot of glitter
Run around cemetaries going "Whooooooo!"
Hoard pretty leaves and let them go flying in the wind...

I think you get the idea:)

Samhain is the old name for Halloween. (Pronounced "Sow-en") It was a Celtic festival for the dead, and the end of the harvest and the beginning of the New Year. (Think of the Mexican Day of the Dead, the concept is pretty similar.) People would start new hearth fires, leave food and drink out for their deceased in remembrance, and ramble around in a big group coming to various homes in a village. (Kind of like Caroling at Christmas...it's the precursor to Trick-or Treating.)

Anyway, I celebrate it, too.:)

maybe this year i'll try to celebrate a more traditional, historical, meaningful halloween...in support of you and all like you who do it every year!!!
