I found some good links about ofrendas and the Day of the Dead in general.
here is a good overall site for Day of the Dead's practices, history and folk art.
And here is a really bizarre site...I'm in love!!! Too cool!
And this is a beautiful site.
Technically my work has to do with homes for the calaveras--the little skeleton people in every profession and walk of life. So they're mini-ofrendas instead of the larger installations you generally tend to see. (Though I do the bigger ones when opportunity presents itself.) Though I have some Hispanic blood, I haven't grown up with the culture...so I try to be as respectful as possible and yet still give it my own personal view.
So there you are:)
