B is for Blizzard...
Mar. 15th, 2002 09:05 amI made it in today...but it's a mess out there. Snow up to the knees in some places. If I made a snow-angel I'd probably never be able to get back up:)
It was a weird storm--at one point I saw a big flash in the sky and then the BOOOM! of a loud thundercrack. I think I jumped about a foot.
Mostly I was curled up under a blanket, but for a little while I dragged my bodhran out to play a little bit. (I think the cello reminded me that I do actually play a musical instrument sometimes.) A bodhran's an Irish flat drum, about 18 inches across with a crosspiece on the back to hold onto and a two-headed drumstick for the beats, which you play one-handed. (You can go amazingly fast once you get the hang of it, especially when you learn to tilt your wrist enough to use both stickheads.) I had to muffle it since a bodhran's a deep-voiced instrument, but it wa nice to remember how to play again...
