The other side of the sun...
Dec. 22nd, 2000 09:32 amWinter Solstice was last night, and I went out for dinner with Brian. Curry and shrimp and coffee with Baileys... we joked about how the bar could start making money selling curry shots. (It could happen!) It's desparately bitterly cold outside, so cold you could lose fingers or ears if you're not dressed for the weather. (I lent Bri my scarf, and I'm on a mission after work--hat and scarf x-mas presents.) Even though intellectually I know that we'll be getting more light soon, it feels like the cold, dark end of the world...
(Not apocalyptic, just...quiet. And cold. and so very very dark.) We're down to about 8 hours of sunlight, so I see a glimpse of gray in the morning, and it's usually full dark by the time I leave work. I've been gulping multivitamins and oranges to keep myself from crawling into the blankets and hibernating. (mmmm, hibernation...)
Yes, it's very Gothique and beautiful outside, with the steam rising everywhere and the painful coldness cutting into your cheeks and welding your eyes shut, but I would love a little warmth and light. (right now 10 degrees above is "balmy", we haven't broken Zero for about a week now, and the cold is STAYING PUT!!)
But today, oh, today I get off work at Noon!!!!
*Sigh of relief* and I can finish my shopping, go home and ...hide under the blankets and sleep and snooze in what's left of the sun. Wrap presents...Try putting together a suprise ball just to see if I can do it. mail Kev's present...(D'oh!) Sorry, Kev, it's goint to be late... I'll be away from a computer for a few days, but I can leave another haiku:
Cold air carries sound,
Far from it's beginning source;
hear me call your name...
Ms Fledermaus,wishing you Happy Holidays.

Don't put yourself out on the present. :-)
Why is it so much colder where you are? You're not that much farther north than we are. Last night was a below zero evening. Have you had sun? Tuesday, yesterday and today have been clear sky days here. I'm glad I've been off work, so I can absorb some of it.
Did you catch my conversation with Zot, a couple of weeks ago. Sweden gets two hours (or more) less sun than we do!
The cold..and the dark..and the howwwling wiiind...
Date: 2000-12-22 09:42 am (UTC)If there's sun, I've worked through it:) But TODAY, TODAY I WILL get some sunshine!!!!!Or buy a full-spectrum light, whichever:) *does the "I get off early" dance*
Well, now I've completely horrified you...good poetry!!! Is the world at an end? Will David Hasselhoff be our next president?!?! (Hmmm, right now I'd take him..)
Ms Fledermaus,
going to her little haus,
to wrap the little gifts,
and tie the little bows,
until her spirits lift and she can warm her little toes...
(A bad poem to reassure you, things haven't changed THAT much:)
the wicked wind of the north
