A really good weekend...
Oct. 13th, 2002 12:34 pm...Abeit surrounded by scary headlines..the sniper in D.C, various Bush horror stories,...A child has gone missing my mom's neck of the woods, and so far it sounds pretty bad, like they'll never find him.
I almost feel guilty for having had such a nice weekend. The opening was lots of fun, I had coffee with Dublos and we both laughed our respective asses off. I watched South Park and ate chips with Ben the Neighbor and Ms Ruby and Laura. I'm going out to sushi on Tuesday night. Life is really good and the leaves are falling and there's hopeful things in the air....
...Surrounded by the dread of current events. This is probably just a taste of what Weimar-era Germany must have been like before the Nazis took over. Not even comparable, I know, but every once in a while a parallel or two comes to mind...
Sober stuff, I know. But never fear, more monkeys are coming your way...

Date: 2002-10-13 10:37 am (UTC)It could be comparable, though. I've heard several comparisons to pre-wartime, both before World War I and before World War II. We're living in exceedingly frightening times. *sigh*
Amidst such times, I'm glad you've got your sense of humor and that you had a wonderful weekend.!

Date: 2002-10-13 02:07 pm (UTC)I also keep looking at our country and some of the parallels keep popping up--the fragmented politcal situation coalescing in the extreme reactionary right, the economic situation, (though nowhere *near* as bad as Germany's was then, not even close) the bizarre murders and disappearances,...It's very glancing at best, I know, but I can't help it:(

Date: 2002-10-13 07:05 pm (UTC)Re: the troubles of the world. Disturbing they are, indeed. However, and unfortunately, there will always be troubles around us. Some of them closer to our little spheres than others.
The key is, I think, is to find shelter in the warm embrace of true friends.
