I did it!!! I figured out again how to knit!!! All by myself without checking ANYTHING, because I was checking e-mail and playing with the embroidey thread and grumbling!:)

I are a smart, smart minkey.

Okay, what I remembered (and this may well be wrong) is:
Do a slipknot and loop that over your left needle. (depending on what hand you favor)
Put your index finger between the knot and the end of the needle, kinda behind the needle itself. Loop the stringover the tip of the needle and tuck it behind the tip of that finger, then slide the other needle in between the loop on the left needle you just made. Pick up the left side of that loop and tug it gently over the left needle tip, and there's that first stitch. Stitch until dizzy in the head.

Damn, now that I'm reading this, the explanation seems really opaque to me...tell you what, I'll go check out some knitting sites and see if i can't find pictures to show you what it's supposed to look like.
