Jan. 16th, 2003 08:21 pmThe Story of the Empty Pouch...
Once upon a time there was a Maus who lived in a high-towered place in a faraway land where the winds blew long and loud over the frozen earth. As it was too cold to play catch or No-Talent-Celebrity-Tag, she made many a small and curious thing on her work bench to pass the time. One fine evening she finished a fine leather pouch, set with mother-of-pearl and small beads and delicate suede and little gold charms. It pleased her no end, but she was stumped. "What the heck am I going to put in this tiny pouch?" she mused. So off she went to find what would be best to fill her pouch.
So she went many places and wondered and tested and fretted and thought. She ran into a friend who admired the pouch and said, "That would be a great place to put an angel charm." "No, that doesn't seem to be it." Answered the Maus, and off she went again..."How about a pretty crystal?' Said another friend." "Nope, it just doesn't seem to be it." the Maus replied. "Tiny picture of a loved one?" "Nooo, I don't have anything that small." "Rose petals?" "Naaah." "Poison?"
"hmmmm...nope, better resist temptation."
And on and on and on still more she traipsed, with the pouch still quite empty on her chest. It was just more than a little frustrating, really. a world full of objects and needs and colors and shapes and noises....noises...hmmm..that might just be it!!!
"I will whisper my secrets into you, little pouch, and you can hold them for me...and you can carry them in your soft suede silence. that is what you will carry, the gentleness of silence."
And that was that.
Somewhere on her bench is some leather cut out for a purse which will contain a hefty pinch of laughter and noise, but she hadnt's started making that yet. for now she just sits and holds that first purse, holding it up to her ear like a seashell and listening to the silence....
