Sometimes I keep forgetting...
Feb. 23rd, 2003 10:12 pm...How much of a strange little microcosm I really live in, until someone else brings home to me just how strange my life is to other people's eyes.
I work in a public place where I run into literally hundreds of people a day, strangers and coworkers. Being exposed like this all day every day makes me strangely cavalier about being around people, since I know full well half the time the folks around me are heavily focused on their own problems. But being the focus of attention by one or two people makes me intensely nervous, in good and bad ways.
My collection of movies and electrical equipment is very small compared to other people.(Say, Ben the Neighbor:) *chuckle*) Being artistic and a fast and voracious reader, I'm not overly worried about this unless I'm entertaining someone and have to rack through my increasingly battered collection for something good to watch. It's hard to share books.
I've got good friends that share food and entertainments and check on each other when they're sick or the building's burning and whatnot. I keep being reminded how special and rare that sense of community is.
Even with it's problems, there are things about my tiny neighborhood I cherish.
Everything's right here. My own personal little city inside a city.
There's a lot of similar babbling going on in my head, but I think I can spare you. Basically the idea is...I didn't realize just *how* different and special my life and the life I share with others is until I hear about the lives of other people....
Whih is another reason I love LJ:) Beuase you're all speial and different too. We have this microcosm community where we check in, drop off love and messages, greet each other in the mornings and hug each other when we're sad. That's a rare, wonderful thing...
Ah luv you guys...
