I slept a lot yesterday...

...either that or I was abducted by aliens and lost a big chunk of time.

Yesterday at work was so hard. It was the day people who were being laid off were informed and given their severance folder. Most of us just walked around in a depression, full of worry and survivor's guilt and anger. We had a meeting at 3:00 about it; possibly the hardest meting I've ever had to sit through. Our director gave us all the news of the layoffs, and let us know that our salaries will be frozen. (which we expected, really.) We still have to do performance reviews. (Damn.) There were subtle intimations of more cuts, though nothing concrete yet...they probably don't know yet what else what to do. When she opened up the floor for questions...we all got very quiet. And silently walked out when it was time to go back to work.

I took a lot of Ibuprofin yesterday. It didn't seem to help. Sleep did. about....Holy cow, 12 hours?!?!?! (It wasn't all consecutive.)

At least I feel rested.

Sorry to hear about the layoffs, and the rest. But at least it sounds like they did it mostly right. When we had layoffs here, all we knew was that 2 people from ourgroup of (then) 10 were getting let go but Friday. But no one ever said who, so we were all wondering about it till a group of us in the office on Friday afternoon made a few phone calls.

Having to call to find out if you still have a job really sucks. I'm still annoyed with the main boss for handling it that way, and it was over a year ago.

I have to give my work props; they're being very compassionate about this, and their severance package is pretty generous. If you're going to get laid off this is the way to do it but it's still hard.

One of my bosses pulled me aside Monday to let me know my job was safe, which I appreciated. I would have been really angry if I had to do what you had to...you're right, that was handled very badly. And you're rightfully still annoyed because that kind of sloppiness with a delicate situation can happen at any time since it's happened before...

It sounds like your company was good about it all. This one had crappy severance packages and lousy communication about it.

And the boss' poor communication abilities has caused other problems since then.

That's really gonna bite them in the ass later...their lack of organization is eventualy going to drive their best people to other companies. Hopefully thier competition.

Yeah, and the scary thing is that it has already driven a lot of people out of the company. I've just been to slow to follow when I should have.

It's a depressing feeling to know that the good people are gone and then think "The good people are gone, and I'm still here. That means that I'm... HEY! That sucks!"

What an awful time! That mixture of 'survivor guilt' and 'Thank God it isn't me!' can really rock you to the bottom of your soul. No wonder you needed to sleep and sleep.

Getting through this week is pretty hard. I liked a lot of the people they're laying off, and today's their last day...it's gonna be a tough one.
