Why I'm still pretty glad I'm single...
May. 21st, 2003 08:14 amI was talking to my friend Rob yesterday after work about his er....dating...situation.
"You're still seeing that married lady, right?"
"Mmmmyep!"
"So her attempt at "saving her marriage" didn't work, or what?"
"Her husband didn't want to go to Therapy. and well,...*grin*"
*rolls eyes* "She can't stay away, huh? Isn't her husband just a little supsicious? I mean, he goes through her purse, you said."
"I know, but she told him I'm gay."
*Rolls eyes some more*
"Ooookay....If she's that unhappy, why doesn't she leave him?"
"Well, she's pregnant, for one."
*chokes* "Um...Rob..."
"It's not mine, because we've always used condoms and she says the timing matches her husband."
"yeah, but c'mon, Rob...this sounds like a Springer episode or something! And if the husband she's lying to and manipulating finds out she's been sleeping with you since before their wedding even, aren't you afraid he'll go after you with a chainsaw? Doesn't that bother you?"
"Nope, and nope..."
*Disgusted noises on my part*
Eeew...
This is why Rob and I don't hang out much. And wow, are there ever worse things than going through a dry spell..I can be in a sordid embroglio that'll end up in tears, court and possibly chainsaw-induced damage.

Date: 2003-05-21 06:35 am (UTC)Nope, being single isn't the worst thing that can happen. Losing your integrity is a different story.

Date: 2003-05-21 06:38 am (UTC)I've always told my friends and fmaily that if I ever do anything that could put me on Jerry Springer they have my permission to put me down. I would be far happier that way in the long run. Or the short run as the case may be.
As bad as he is for sleeping with a maried woman, I can't imagine what is going through her head- getting married WHILE sleeping with someone else. And her being pregnant... she's already lying to her husband, so why does Rob believe her that it can't be his? He's too special to be lied to?
As someone else going through a dry spell, I am far more content to go without then to get involved in something that messy.

Date: 2003-05-21 09:47 am (UTC)I can't hang around with people like Rob either. Knowing he's enjoying himself as part of a deceitful relationship would just reduce my respect for him and appreciation of him as a friend. Argh!

Date: 2003-05-21 02:54 pm (UTC)perhaps rob should go ahead and contact springer so at least he'd have money after the rest of his life gets messed up.

Date: 2003-05-21 03:31 pm (UTC)And your upset with Rob on principal? Did I miss something? Is he married also? Should he not be with this woman due to his own responsibilities? I can see being concerned for Rob's safety, and concerned for the future little one, but why is this all "Eeew"?

Date: 2003-05-22 06:00 am (UTC)I hope there are good guys out there...I've been taking a break from dating after the last fiasco. I felt it wouldn't be fairl to drag some poor unsuspecting schmuck into my pissed-off-dating baggage until I'd had some time to adjust.
which is the difference between me and Rob...and most people, really, now I think about it:)
Re:
Date: 2003-05-22 06:08 am (UTC)The "Eeew" is because it's a very messy situation in general.

Date: 2003-05-22 06:14 am (UTC)Everytime I start grousing about being single, something reminds me that it could be sooooo much worse. So I try to keep that in mind, lately.
Re:
Date: 2003-05-22 06:17 am (UTC)though it sounds like this lady has a history of miscarriage.
(Yes, I know waaaay too much about someone i'd never met.)
I think Rob's being really cavalier about this whole thing....he's treting it like a joke, like it's funny. that's really disturbing to me.

Date: 2003-05-22 06:21 am (UTC)Single isn't so bad in comparison:)

Date: 2003-05-22 06:25 am (UTC)Springer probably saves all kinds of money on that sort of thing, since people will gladly embarrass themselves on tv for free.
I'm really a little concerned about Rob's safety, since the husband sounds a bit like someone who would lose their mind after being so blatantly lied to. I don't know if this guy would try to hurt someone, but sheesh.....Rob's pushing his luck; especially with his paramour telling hubby her "friend" is gay.
Re:
Date: 2003-05-22 06:29 am (UTC)Yeah, dry spells aren't that bad...I'm getting a lot of work done, for one. And stuff like this reminds me why single isn't so bad either.

Date: 2003-05-22 12:31 pm (UTC)That makes things quite different....I would like to second your "Eewww..."
Its one thing to be straight up and have fun, its another (bad) thing entirely to screw with somebodies head.
Good luck if it comes to a fallout situation... :(
Re:
Date: 2003-05-22 03:12 pm (UTC)and you honey bunny?
Re:
Date: 2003-05-23 05:47 am (UTC)As for the guy front, I've been taking a break after my last dating fiasco. Mmaaaaaan, if you get a chance check back a page or two and look for the 3 am-attemped booty call on his part, with friend in tow, even! It's really funny now, but at the time I was really pissed off about it.
I've been hugging pillows to get to sleep, though. i guess I'm lonely too, but it comes and goes.
(Hugs you)
That's the stuff....

Date: 2003-05-23 05:52 am (UTC)Of course, anything's easier to handle than that whole situation, now that I think about it:)
Re:
Date: 2003-05-23 05:56 am (UTC)And this lady's gonna fall for him hard if she hasn't already, and *That* will be messier still when she wants to leave her husband and Rob says, "Juuuuust kidding!"
oog. People amaze me sometimes.
