I've been racking my brain last night for chess strategiesyesterday, since I'm playing someone tomorrow and I'm juuuust a mite rusty. let's see, the last time I played...was this summer, when I played Ben the Neighbor. (I beat him. Genius that Ben is, though, he admits he's not that hot a chess player.)

I got out my first step-dad's chess board last night to practice a little. It's a beautiful board, hand made with glass chessmen made from green and brown glass, and I generally save it for best. But it was fun handling the little glass seahorse-knights and jumping them around. I even remembered some defenses against some pretty cutthroat moves. (But will they stick in my head later? Who knows? Not me. My usual strategy is to say, "Look! AIR!" and hide all the pieces so we can't play anymore.)

Any advice by better players than me will be gladly accepted...which should be most of you:)

I LOVE the game! If we ever meet we'll have to play sometime. I'm not bad. (Could be better) The best advise: Try to control the center of the board...and when your opponent looks away (Point to the window-and say: "HEY!! LOOK AT THAT!") steal a piece off from their board. =O)

Have FUN! CHECK???

I actually did do some of that, with the help of the neat horse and carriage outside on my street...
"Lookit the cool horse and carriage!"
*spills chess pieces over*
"oops...do you remember where they all go? I sure don't!"

I'm a bad Maus...yes I am...

Make sure you control the four center squares of the board, have at least two pieces to back up any attack tactics you may have, and finally when all else fails flirt with your opponent one of two things will happen.

1) They will get nervous and start playing stupid

2) They will like to be flirted with and let you win in hopes of something else.

Once you have beaten them, say "Nice Game" and pretend the flirting never happened
