More cawfeetawk...
Nov. 30th, 2003 04:15 pmI just got off the phone with Azure a while ago...at first she was really kind of stressed and combatative about taking down the show, (Hey, I was just asking when should I come to get my stuff out...? I know the other show has to be up by the 2nd. Arrgh.) Apparently they're still doing the midnight thing. (?!? I thought they'd changed their policy!) I agreed to come and pick things up Monday after work.
Yeah, I'm grumbling. I'm really not happy about how this whole thing went. Granted, nothing got stolen or danaged this time:/...but sometimes I wonder why I even bother with trying to exhibit when it's so frustrating on so many levels, when my work is overlooked or badly treated, when the people I need to work with really can't be bothered to give me the basics. One of these fine days I'll save all my pennies and see if I can't put some work up at Rogue Buddha or something. I just feel kind of defeated right now. At least I'll get my paintings back up on my poor bare walls; those hooks look so lonely just sitting there with nothing on them.
At least I finished a lot of knitting. Right now I'm knitting to vent frustration. Rrrrrrr...
Okay okay, I did talk to other people on the phone and THAT was quite nice. I should try to concentrate on the good, and refuse to hit the bad over and over again with something heavy. But it's hard.

See? all better!

Date: 2003-11-30 02:22 pm (UTC)It's not your work, honey-pie-sugar-cutie, it's the place. You need to put together a full body of work and hang it in a respectable place. Some of it's on you...so get to work...and choose a venue that will let your work shine.
Don't even think that! I heard that!!

Heh...
Date: 2003-11-30 02:35 pm (UTC)*grins a bit*
Seriously, though, most of the galleries I put work up in and enjoyed have gone out of business or switched ownership. I'm scratching around to find better venues, but I know it'll take some time. (The Buddha, f'rinstance, has a year and a half waiting list, and a hefty price tag I can't swing financially right now.)
I don't mean to whine...I always do keep scrabbling for places to show work.
I just wanna kick some of these snooty "Are you SURE you're hip enough to show in our gorgeous coffeehouse" owners right in their precious gap-clad derrieres.
Maybe someday I can start a co-op with some like-minded locals. It might not be a bad way to get art up, and I'd have more control. Hmmm....:)

Date: 2003-12-01 12:46 am (UTC)Don't be discouraged if you run into a snob or two...you don't want to be in a gallery that promotes that. Talking= connections. Connections= path to your goals. achieving your goals=happy artist who will make cookies. cookies= shared cookies. shared cookies= happy friends.
So, you really need to get to work, y'know. We're waiting.

Re: Hmmm...
Date: 2003-11-30 03:11 pm (UTC)Maybe I can ask around and make up some cd's with my work on it, and send them to the Windy city. Ben the Neighbor was working on that, anyway, as a clever way for me to hand out work samples.

Date: 2003-12-01 09:36 pm (UTC)I don't know what the gallery situation is in Madison. There are some galleries in Sprong Green, but they showcase mostly Wisconsin artists, even though you ARE the reigning monarch of the Wisconsin D.M. (District of Mausiland)
