Shhhh...

Okay... is anybody looking? No? Good. I couldn't just sit on this; I had to share. It's incredibly funny. You can't make stuff up like this if you tried...

My boss, for reasons known only to him, has put in one-way glass for the main window of his new (temporary) office, overlooking the inner Dock at work. One way glass. So people couldn't look into his office, or see him looking out at you. You're with me so far, right?
Okay...Now, everyone that's ever driven a car with heavily tinted windows or watched the Discovery channel knows that when you have a light on behind one-way glass (such as an office lit suitably for working) the one-way glass is no longer one-way...You'd think my boss would know that too, right?

Nope. He had it installed anyway...the contractor who did it was apparently doing his best not to laugh as he put the stuff up. And my boss didn't realize that people would be able to see him just fine until the glass had been installed...

So I walked into the inner dock today to see a bright, shiny mirror surface with a huge photograph-style light right in front of the window of my boss's office, to make that window nice and opaque like it's supposed to be. I was soooo tempted to whip out a tube of lipstick and do my makeup in that window, waving cheerfully at the Bossman. Apparently he's having an electrician come out to set up a permanent light for outside that window.
Which will white out the screen for the security camera set up right in front of it, and will make the Inner dock, already one of the hottest places to be at my work that much hotter. Juuuust in time for summer. I picture my boss crouching in the dark behind the glass, stripped down to shorts and that damn baseball cap he wears, so he can spy on the denizens of the Dock in comfort.

It's incredible...my postage meter's from 1992 and needs to be replaced, and this yoyo puts in one way glass and a contracted light just for it?!?!? And people are ...okay with this? Okay, lots of people are quietly giggling...the building ops staff are having mini-hernias, stopping each other in the halls with a quick giggle of, "Is he really that stupid??!" Yes, folks, apparently he is. He's pulled a LOT of stupid stuff in his time, but this just takes the cake. I am utterly and completely baffled...and I've been laughing my ass off all afternoon.

Superb. Good to know that middle management everywhere is the same and makes the same incompetent decisions.

That is truly deranged. Sometimes I'm really and truly glad that I don't work in the private sector. Well, maybe other municipal government work sites could get away with something as shady as that, but mine would never, ever try.

It sounds like someone has a little too inflated belief of his importance...

Well, now you can rest assured that with the light, you won't be forced to watch him leisurely pick his nose.

Maybe I'll pick mine... I can't see him, after all, & it's a nice big shiny mirror...

Too funny!!!
Personally, I think I might make use of the mirror to make sure my nose hairs are properly trimmed, I wouldn't want to offend my co-workers that might cause a distraction thus impeding the efficiencies that a wonder-boss such as yours has undoubtedly nurtured.

I was getting worried about half way through reading this post. I thought he'd have the glass put in, not realise that you could still see him, and then, er, yes, see how worrying it is?

*chortle*

today I saw he had all the lights in his office turned on but one....and he was crouching over the spotlight on his paperwork. You could still see him just dandy!!!
What a yutz.
