Storm...

I have coworkers this morning who still don't have power from the storm last night. Me, I just sat in my apartment (which is convenienetly tilted away from most storm winds) and lit candles and read, feeling oddly content...

I was listening to the bus driver today on the way to workies talking about how winter's shaping up. He was telling somebody that all the squirrels in his yard are freaking out and burying anything food like they can get. There's a rumor about some kind of seriously nasty winter around the corner. I think I believe that. Why? Because it was 80's and humid this week and I have a half-finished mohair and Icelandic wool mitten on my couch. I have this instinctive push to make seriously warm clothes. Not that I think Mausi knitting would make a great weather barometer, but still. Heh, actually that would be a funny barometer:

Mausi making tank-top or bikini: Seriously hot weather.
Mausi making knitted umbrella: Extremely wet.
Mausi making airy scarves and lace cardigans: Breezy cool weather.
Mausi making merino sweater: Cool to cold.
Mausi making alpaca sweater with matching mitts and hat: very cold, snowy.
Mausi making Icelandic wool long tunic, norwegian mitts and leg warmers: Hideously cold.
Mausi making knitted Astronaut suit with helmet and life-support: It's too cold for bacteria to exist.
Mausi making apartment cosy: Uh, well, that's normal, so just ignore that,willya?....

Heh. I was just joking about knitting a truck cosy.
I've heard it's going to be a really rough winter too.
God I hope they're wrong.

There was a bomb threat or something going on across the street from my work this morning. Big crowd of people with umbrellas in the driving rain, just standing around. One poor woman had no umbrella and was completely drenched. She had her arms wrapped around herself, her knees clenched, shivering. I hope that was her choice rather than the people around her refusing to share. She could have used your knitted umbrella!

Poor, poor lady...

I would have lent her any old umbrella; I've even got one with me...

Yes, but, a knitted umbrella would be so heavy! My arm hurts just thinking about it.

Maybe if I knit it with plastic bags, super tight....wait, that would be even heavier, huh? Oog...

It's okay, I'll have to knit big warm hats for us all...
